Knit a Chunky Sweater



Learn to knit a sweater! If you're a confident beginner who has mastered knitting basics and are looking to tackle larger projects, this workshop is for you!

You might be intimidated by the thought of making a sweater....don't be! For this workshop, we'll be making a totally non-fussy sweater using chunky yarn-- meaning it will knit up quickly and only basic skills are needed. You've got this! 

In this three-part workshop, we'll work to make your new favorite sweater. You will learn:

  • Yarn & needle information
  • How to knit the jersey stitch
  • How to create a sweater body and sleeves
  • How to assemble all components
  • All the skills needed to construct a basic sweater from start to finish

This is three-part workshop taking place on the following dates:

Tuesday, February 4th 6:30-9:30pm, Tuesday, February 11th 6:30-7:30pm (this is an optional check-in session to answer any questions!), and Tuesday, February 18th 6:30-9:30pm


Wednesday, March 4th 6:30-9:30pm, Wednesday, March 11th 7pm-8:30pmpm  (this is an optional check-in session to answer any questions!), and Wednesday, March 18th 6:30-9:30pm



SKILL REQUIREMENTS: You must have basic knitting skills to attend this workshop, including: casting on, the knit stitch, and the purl stitch. If you are a total newbie, attend one of our Knitting 101 workshops first- register here.


Class Details

Date: select start date above (this is a three-part workshop; students must be available for the first and third sessions, the second session is optional-- see above for details)
Location: Brooklyn Craft Company, 165 Greenpoint Avenue (here’s where we’re located)
Cost: $125 includes seven hours of instruction. Yarn and knitting needles must be purchased during class; a 10% discount will be honored for all students the day of class.

Meet Your Instructor

Amelia Burrus-Granger is a Greenpoint-based designer and maker. Originally from the west coast with a background in Women’s Studies and the history of radical knitting, her current hobbies include reading young adult fiction, decluttering her apartment, and daydreaming of re-wilding. Check out her work at ameliamargaret.com.
