Please note: All class registrations are final; please view our Cancellation Policy and Covid-19 Policy for more information. By registering for this workshop, you are agreeing to abide by these policies. Thank you for supporting our small business!

Skill level requirement: this is NOT a learn to sew class; you must have sewn garments in the recent past, and be confident operating a sewing machine independently. See below for more info. If you're a total beginner, check out our Sewing 101 Workshops.

Ready to take your garment sewing skills to the next level? Join us to to make a Friday Pattern Co. Ilford Jacket in this 2-day sewing intensive!

The Ilford Jacket is a versatile style that’s modular design makes for a pattern that is simple, yet impactful. It can be customized a million different ways and really is a “choose your own adventure” type of pattern that incorporates your design sense into the project! Best of all, the pattern includes sizes XS-7X!

This jacket includes two lengths as well as a bunch of pocket templates that you can mix and match! The possibilities are endless! You can wear the Ilford as a jacket or shirt depending on the fabric you use.  This is a fun, skill building pattern that you will want to make/wear again and again! This pattern is for everyone and looks great on all gender expressions!

Under the guidance of teacher Diana Rodgers, you'll learn the basics of shirt and jacket construction as you master several garment-sewing essentials.

We'll cover:

  • Measuring the body accurately to create a perfect fit
  • Working from a commercial pattern, including size selection, deciphering instructions, cutting from paper pattern pieces, and more
  • Understanding garment sewing basics such as proper fabric prep, pinning, cutting, ironing and troubleshooting
  • Becoming familiar with sewing jargon commonly found in commercial patterns
  • How to construct a collar, cuffs, boxy sleeves, patch pockets, and buttonholes. Please note, we will not be covering the placket sleeve in this workshop due to time limitations.
  • How to set sleeves

Skill Requirements
Intermediate sewing experience is required; YOU MUST BE COMFORTABLE WORKING ON A SEWING MACHINE INDEPENDENTLY and have sewn a few garments in the recent past.

The jacket pattern and materials are not included in registration fee. We have a variety of fabrics, as well as all necessary notions, available for purchase with a 10% student discount. Feel free to drop by anytime before your class, or purchase supplies the day of the workshop! You will need:

  • Ilford Jacket Pattern
  • 1.5 - 5 yards fabric depending on size and legth (see size chart in photos above).  Heavy fabrics like denim, twill, and canvas will make a structured jacket. Softer fabrics like linen, midweight corduroy, and light wool will make a more shacket-style garment. And flannel, cotton/linen blends, and chambray will make a lighter, overshirt kind of Ilford.
  • 5-12 buttons (any size is fine, but we recommend 1-1.5” buttons)
  • 1 yard fusible interfacing
  • Matching thread
