If you're looking to tackle zipper projects, this class is for you! Our expert instructor will teach you handbag sewing basics while you make your own Sallie Tomato Zippy Bag, a cute and practical crossbody bag, perfect for traveling, shopping, and gifting!
We’ll cover how to:
- Cut fabric accurately
- Pin and sew seams
- Create a bag lining
- Make a crossbody strap out of fabric
- Sew exterior zipper pockets
- Install a zipper, swivel snaps, and strap sliders
Basic sewing experience and comfort using a sewing machine is required for this workshop! If you think you need a bit of practice before tacking this project, check out our Sewing 101 workshops here. Fabric, thread, and hardware will be available for purchase in our retail shop at a 10% discount to students. All tools needed to complete this class will be provided and sewing machines will be available courtesy of BERNINA of America.

Meet Your Instructor
Diana Rodgers is a teaching artist living in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Since earning a BFA in apparel design from FIT, she has enjoyed a varied creative career including fashion designer, entrepreneur, and teacher. The ‘common thread’ among all these endeavors is sewing. Diana currently teaches weekly sewing classes to children and adults, covering everything from clothing to accessories to quilts. When not teaching, she creates sewn illustrations (or applique), inspired by all the things that make her feel nostalgic. You can check 'em out on Instagram @wonderthreads
