Join us as we stitch together to celebrate the launch of our new crochet pattern, the Picnic Plaid Kerchief! While this pattern was originally written for our exclusive Vintage Picnic Yarn, this designed can be stitched up in any sport weight yarn. To make things even more exciting, we are planning an Instagram giveaway for stitchalong participants, so read on for more details!

Starting on June 4th, we will be working on this pattern together! We have put together a series of videos, photos, and weekly blog posts to walk you through the steps to create your very own stylish accessory with us.

Follow along here on our blog as we get you started crocheting a striped mesh base. We will then have two weeks to complete this portion of the pattern, with the option to attend a live check-in on Zoom on June 11th at 7:15 pm! This will be a chance to get your burning questions answered live as well as show off your progress, so you won't want to miss this. Next, you will fill in the mesh with simple weaving techniques to create the plaid pattern, and finally we will go over the edge stitch options. By the end of the month, you will be rocking your picnic plaid kerchief to all your summer festivities.

Besides the blog, another resource we are offering to our community is a special Discord channel just for stitchalong members! This will be a virtual place for us to chat, ask and answer clarifying questions, and share progress photos.

Q & A:

Can I participate if I have never crocheted before?

We love a challenge! This pattern is great for a Confident Beginner - Perhaps not your very first project, but if you’ve crocheted a few times and are comfy with the basics, such as chain stitch and double crochet, go for it! This could mean you took a session of Crochet 101 with us, worked through the Crazy Easy Cowl, or even just completed a few swatches.

When will this take place?

Stitching begins on June 4th, but you can join us now by RSVPing here! Within 48 hours of purchasing the pattern and RSVPing to the stitchalong, you will receive access to the exclusive Discord channel and the Zoom link for our midpoint check in.

We will be posting stitchalong content weekly on the blog through June. Hopefully you will be rocking your kerchief for 4th of July weekend!

What will I need to participate?

Picnic Plaid Kerchief Crochet Pattern, which can be purchased here

Vintage Picnic Yarn, or other sport weight yarn, in 7 colors. Approximate yardage needed:  

• • Color A (Touch Grass) - 35g/ 115 yards
  • Color B (Riverside) - 35g/ 115 yards
  • Color C (Carrot Cake) - 25g/ 85 yards
  • Color D (Harbor View) - 20g/ 70 yards
  • Color E (Look, a Squirrel) - 20g/ 70 yards
  • Color F (Clear Skies) - 10g/ 35 yards
  • Color G (Cupcake) - 35g/ 115 yards

Crochet Hook - Size 3.25mm/D

Tapestry Needle (We find this 6" style the easiest for this pattern!)

The stitchalong is free with purchase of the pattern, but I got my pattern during the yarn crawl. Will I still get access to the Discord and Zoom?

Yes! Again, just make sure to register for the stitchalong with the same email address you used to download your free copy of the Picnic Plaid Pattern.

What if I want to use scrap yarn?

This would be a great project for scraps, since we only use a small amount of each color! If you don't have 7 sport weight yarns in your stash, this kerchief would look great with DK or even worsted weight yarns. You would just need to adjust your hook size to match the yarn you are using, 3.75-4mm for DK or 4-5mm for worsted. Whatever yarns you are using, be sure that all of your colors are the same weight.

If you wanted to use fewer colors for your project, we would recommend using at least 3 for the plaid pattern to really shine.

For this stitchalong, we will be crocheting the pattern with The One Cotton, a cotton/linen/tencel blend perfect for the summer!

What if I can't attend the live Zoom?

No problem! If you have purchased the pattern and registered for the stitchalong, we will email it you the replay of the Zoom session.
