Whether you've been wanting to learn patchwork basics or a fun new application for your patchwork skills, this is the class for you. Plus, you'll finally have a chance to use up those fabric scraps you've been saving!

In this full day intensive, instructor Diana Rodgers will take students on a tour of  patchwork -- the process of sewing small pieces of fabric together to make a larger composition. Then, students will sew their patchwork block into a handy lined tote!

In this class you'll learn how to:

  • Use improv patchwork methods create a modern, scrappy quilt block
  • Accurately cut fabric with a rotary cutter and cutting mat
  • Assemble your fabric pieces
  • Press seams for patchwork
  • Make a lined tote bag, using your patchwork piece for one side of the tote exterior

Please note this is not a learn-to-sew class. Students must have basic machine sewing knowledge and be comfortable using a sewing machine. If you do not know how to sew, please take one of our Sewing 101 classes as a prerequisite to this class.

Diana Rodgers is a fiber artist and educator who grew up on Long Island and is now based in Bronx, NY.  Since receiving a BFA from The Fashion Institute of Technology, Diana has pursued three creative career paths: fashion designer, manufacturer, and sewing educator. Sewing is the common thread among all three.

Most of her days are spent teaching people of all ages how to sew, but Diana finds time to work on soft sculptures, embroideries, and quilts.  Career highlights include teaching over 1000 people how to use a sewing machine, and selling her products to MoMA Design Store.
