Join us to make a super cute Saltwater Slip Dress from Friday Pattern Co!

The Saltwater Slip is a simple slip dress with adjustable straps that can be layered or worn on its own. Choose between two length options: above the knee, and tea length (with side slits). You can also add on optional side ties to add a bit of waist shaping! Wear this slip over a tee shirt, under a sheer dress, or on its own! The pattern comes in sizes XS-7X and includes multiple cup size options (B/C and C/D). This is a pullover dress with no closures. After you sew your first dress in class, you'll want to make this easy-to-sew slip again and again!

In this two-part workshop, you'll gain an understanding of sewing from a purchased pattern, AND you'll sew a super-cute dress, custom made to fit your body. You'll leave this class with the skills and confidence to tackle more garment sewing on your own.

You'll learn how to:

  • Measure the body accurately to create a perfect fit
  • Work from a commercial pattern, including size selection, deciphering instructions, cutting from tissue paper pattern pieces, and more
  • Understand garment sewing basics such as proper fabric prep, pinning, cutting, ironing and trouble shooting
  • Become familiar with sewing jargon commonly found in commercial patterns
  • Cut fabric and assemble a garment the right way
  • Make bias tape for a neckline
  • Create adjustable straps
  • Sew and attach side ties

This is a two-part intensive workshop being held on the following dates:

  • Tuesday 7/22 at 6:30pm-9:30pm and Tuesday 7/29 at 6:30pm-9:30pm (students must be available to attend both dates)

OR

  • Sunday 8/10 at 3:30pm-6:30pm and Sunday 8/17 at 4pm-7pm

This is a beginner garment sewing workshop; you do not need to have any experience sewing clothing, but you must have basic machine-sewing skills.

This is a beginner garment sewing workshop; you do not need to have any experience sewing clothing, but you must have basic machine-sewing skills. Our Sewing 101 class (or equivalent) is a prerequisite for this class. (You can register for one of our upcoming Sewing 101 workshops here.) If you're unsure whether you have enough sewing experience for this class, please send a brief email summarizing your sewing experience to info@brooklyncraftcompany.com.

Materials needed for class are available to be purchased at our shop in person or online as a local pick up order at a 10% student discount. Please note, within 24 hrs of registering for the workshop, you will receive the discount code for the materials needed. For the Saltwater Slip Dress you will need:

  • the Saltwater Slip Dress Pattern
  •  medium-weight woven (non-stretch) fabric; (we recommend Cotton , Cotton BlendsChambray or Poly-Blend Gingham ) To determine the amount of fabric required please consult the size chart on the back of the sewing pattern after taking your measurements. Note that sewing pattern sizes are not comparable to off the rack. This is an unlined dress. When you're choosing fabric, be aware that lighter fabrics can be somewhat shear. Choose accordingly.
  • Thread
  • rings and sliders for the adjustable straps will be available to purchase day of class

*Please note it is always advisable to pre-wash any fabric being used for garment sewing as many fabrics can shrink, especially those containing cotton or linen. To prewash, simply wash and dry the fabric as you would the finished garment. If you buy fabric the day-of class and can't pre-wash (very common for classroom settings!), please keep in mind that finished garments must always be washed cold and line dried to prevent shrinkage.

All class registrations are final; no refunds will be given.
