Kids After School Sewing Classes
Calling all crafty kiddos! Come get creative with us and learn to sew on a sewing machine!
If you want to learn to sew from a pattern, gain an understanding of garment construction, and begin sewing your own clothes and more, this is the workshop for you!
In this ten-week after-school course, children aged 7-12 will learn to sew with a sewing machine and gain an understanding of sewing basics as they make a total of four finished projects. Students will leave this class with the skills and confidence to tackle more sewing as they develop valuable exposure to creativity, design, fine motor skills, construction/assembly, and more.
This is a ten-week workshop on Wednesdays from 3:15-4:30pm, September 26 through December 12, 2018. (There will be no class on October 31 and November 21.) After-school pick-up is available from PS110, PS34, and PS31 (scroll down for more info).
Your child will learn:
- How to sew confidently on a machine (machines will be provided to students during class)
- Sewing basics such as proper fabric prep, body measuring, pinning, cutting, ironing and trouble shooting
- How to sew seams correctly and evenly
- How to flex their creative muscles and put their personal spin on their projects with color and design choices!
- The amazing feeling when they get to say, "I made it myself!"
Students will complete a total of four sewing projects during this course, including:
- Tote Bag
- Elastic Waist Skirt
- Stuffed Animal
Materials are not included in class cost and students will be required to purchase fabric and other notions for each class project. Parents should expect to purchase approximately $60 in supplies throughout the duration of the course.
