Skill level requirement: Intermediate. This is NOT a learn to knit class; See below for more info. If you're a total beginner, check out our Knitting 101 Workshop.
 

Learn to knit socks! If you've mastered knitting basics and are looking to tackle more complex projects, this workshop is for you!

In this three-part workshop, we'll work through the Shorty Sock by Summer Lee Design Co. (the Basic B version). You will learn how to:

  • Use the magic loop knitting technique 
  • Make a heel flap and turn the heel
  • Pick up stitches 
  • Shape with decreases
  • Knit the kitchner Stitch
  • Follow a sock pattern

 

This is three-part workshop taking place on the following dates: 

Thursday 6/15 at 6:30pm-7:30pm
Thursday 6/22 at 6:30pm-9:30pm
Thursday 6/29 at 6:30pm-7:30pm (Optional troubleshooting & finishing session)


 

SKILL REQUIREMENTS: This is an intermediate level knitting workshop. You must have the following knitting skills in order to register:

  • Casting on
  • Binding off 
  • Knitting in the round
  • Ribbing (knitting and purling)
  • Not required but helpful: Some experience with shaping using decreases (k2 tgth and SSK)

 

 Materials + Tools Required 

  • Shorty Sock Pattern -- Purchase the PDF here! Please bring a printed copy to class. We will be following the Basic B version.
  • Sock yarn & needles will be available for purchase at our shop the day of class at a 10% discount!

 

 

Class Details

Date: select start date above (this is a three-part workshop; students must be available for the first and second sessions, the third session is optional-- see above for details)
Location: Brooklyn Craft Company, 165 Greenpoint Avenue (here’s where we’re located)
Cost: $95 includes five hours of instruction, materials are not included. A 10% discount will be honored for all students the day of class.

Meet Your Instructor

 

Kristin (she/her) is a queer fiber artist whose work centers at the intersection of usefulness, beauty, and revolution. She finds inspiration in connecting with the local NY Fibershed, other fiber artists, native plants, and in righting our relationship to the land and people who stewarded this land that we now call New York. Kristin has been knitting for over 25 years. She is particularly passionate about knitting socks and stranded color work. She also loves visible mending, sewing, and dabbling in many other crafts.  You can find her @kpmadethings on instagram.
