Sew Your Own Bra
Learn to sew your own bra! Making your own undergarments is all the rage right now -- it allows you to totally customize the fit to your personal preferences, AND practice your garment-construction skills on a small scale.
Led by Ying from Tailor Made Shop, you'll learn how to make a soft, wireless bra, including how to:
- Work with stretch galloon lace and stretch mesh
- Apply several types of elastic trim: picot elastic, narrow lingerie elastic, and strap elastic
- Create adjustable bra straps with rings and sliders
- Clean finish bra seams
- Work from a commercial pattern, including size selection, deciphering instructions, cutting fabric using pattern pieces, and more
We'll be working with the Lana Bra by Made for Mermaids . The pattern will be provided in class and is yours to keep! The workshop fee includes the pattern and use of sewing machines and other sewing tools, but does not fabric and other supplies. Kits will be available to purchase on the day of class.
Skill requirements: This is an advanced beginner garment sewing workshop; you must have basic machine-sewing skills. Our Sewing 101 class (or equivalent) is a minimum prerequisite for this class (you can register for one of our upcoming Sewing 101 workshops here), and basic garment construction experience is preferred. You also must be comfortable sewing curves. If you're unsure whether you have enough sewing experience for this class, please send a brief email summarizing your sewing experience to email@example.com.

MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR
In 2014, Ying got measured at a lingerie boutique and was told that the store didn't carry any bras in her size. Her response was: F*ck that and she signed up for a bra-making class. That class changed her life. She has been sewing lingerie for herself and her friends and family for almost 5 years now. She is also the owner of Tailor Made Shop, an online shop that offers high quality lingerie-making fabrics, notions, and trims for the modern sewist. Ying launched Tailor Made Shop a few months after she started sewing her own bras and realized that she was struggling to find shops that offered lingerie sewing materials all in one place. Since this can be incredibly frustrating for a newbie bra maker, she took the problem into her own hands and created Tailor Made Shop: a place for unique fabrics, curated kits and all your essential basics to get you started on sewing your own personal lingerie.
