WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

 

Got a hole in your favorite pair of jeans? It's all good... you can patch them up! Join us to learn sashiko, a Japanese hand sewing technique used for visible mending, decorative stitching, and more!

This class will cover:

  • How to create geometric sashiko stitch patterns
  • What types of fabric, thread, needles and other tools are required
  • How to patch holes in clothing and other textiles 

 

Students may use clothing they'd like to mend or opt to practice the techniques on fabric scraps.

 

Materials needed for the project are listed below. If you don't have these materials on hand, simply add-on the supply bundle above!

Meet Your Instructor

Molly George is a textile artist and teacher living in Brooklyn, NY. She is a graduate of Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), a practicing artist, and a youth and adult teacher in the textile arts. Molly studied natural dyeing in a Natural Pigments artist residency with Arquetopia in Oaxaca, Mexico, and she is excited to share the knowledge she learned there with our students.
