WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

Join us October 20th to make your new favorite new outfit for fall!

Whether you're new to sewing from a pattern or a more experienced sewer who just wants to tackle something new, this workshop is for you.

In this Sunday intensive workshop, you'll gain an understanding of basic garment construction and how to sew from a purchased pattern. You'll leave this class with the skills and confidence to tackle more garment sewing on your own AND with a super cute addition to your wardrobe.

This is an all-day workshop, including a midday lunch break. You'll learn how to:

  • Measure the body accurately to create a perfect fit
  • Work from a commercial pattern, including size selection, deciphering instructions, cutting from paper pattern pieces, and more
  • Understand garment sewing basics such as proper fabric prep, pinning, cutting, ironing and trouble shooting
  • Cut fabric and assemble a garment the right way
  • Sew a hem, sew patch pockets, create a faced neckline, work with metal hardware and more.

The dress pattern will be provided in class and is yours to keep! We'll be working with the Cleo Dress from Tilly and the Buttons in this class.

Skill requirements: This is a beginner garment sewing workshop; you do not need to have any experience sewing clothing, but you must have basic machine-sewing skills. Our Sewing 101 class (or equivalent) is a prerequisite for this class. (You can register for an upcoming session of Sewing 101 here.) If you're unsure whether you have enough sewing experience for this class, please send a brief email summarizing your sewing experience to hello@brooklyncraftcompany.com.
