WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

Learn the fun, addictive, and surprisingly easy English Paper Piecing quilting technique in this 3-hour workshop!

What is English Paper Piecing? It's a clever way of making precise geometric shapes from fabric, using paper templates as a base. The resulting shapes are then sewn together by hand to create amazing modern patchwork compositions, and finally the paper is removed from inside the stitched piece. It's a little bit magic and a lot of fun! No sewing machines are used, this is all hand sewing -- which makes English Paper Piecing a great project to take on the go.

In this class you'll learn:

  • How to cut and prep the fabric for your project
  • How to glue baste and fabric baste each fabric hexagon onto the paper template
  • How to join the individual hexagaons together to make a larger piece, using special thread to achieve invisible stitches
  • How to make neat, invisible hand stitches, plus special knots to use in English Paper Piecing
  • How to remove the paper from within your project at the end.

Class fee includes a fabric bundle which will allow each student will make the rainbow hexagon piece shown here, which measures about 18" square and can be used to make a pillow, mini quilt, tote bag, or anything you like!

All necessary tools and materials will be provided. Just bring yourself and get ready to stitch!
