Crafty Hour: Woven Necklace
This July and August, come join us on Fridays for our weekly Crafty Hours! What's a Crafty Hour? It's a casual, 1-2 hour workshop offered at a deeply discounted rate. What better way to kick off your summer weekends than with some crafty fun? So grab a friend, bring a refreshment, and let's hang out!
Our July 26th Crafty Hour project will be WOVEN NECKLACES! Get a taste of tapestry weaving as you design and make your own piece of wearable fiber art. Total beginners welcome!
- How to make a simple DIY loom from chipboard
- How to set up the warp thread on your loom
- How to do plain weave
- How to add fringe
You'll leave with a mini weaving, perfect to wear as a necklace!
Please note: The necklace pictured above was created by your instructor using finer thread than what we will use in class. We'll be sticking to chunky yarns that are a bit easier for beginners to work with, and will help ensure you finish your piece during class!

Ibu Textiles is a line of hand woven products designed and created by fiber artist Jennifer Fleischer. Based in New York City, she weaves each unique piece by hand. With the use of floor and frame looms, she likes to blend traditional and experimental techniques. This current line exhibits a strong design aesthetic inspired by her experiences finding peace and calm in an urban city. Traveling plays a vital role in her inspiration as well, and the name itself, Ibu, means 'Mother' in Indonesian. She currently resides in Queens, N.Y. with her husband, Nate, and a plant named Clementine.
