Before and After: Our New Store! (Part 1)
Posted on 06 July 2016
Here she is, our new storefront! When we signed our lease, this old gal looked a little rough around the edges but nothing a little DIY action couldn't fix. The store has great bones, tons of light, and an excellent location -- just two blocks from our former studio, and only a half-block from the Greenpoint Avenue stop on the G train. We love Greenpoint so much and we couldn't be happier to join the amazing community of independent Greenpoint shops!
Here's how things looked on the inside. All in all, the store was in great shape, just in need of some TLC. There was an oddly-shaped divider wall in the back, mismatched ceiling lights, and just a painted plywood floor. (Previously, this space was a vintage furniture store.)
Some more details of the inside of the store in "before" mode. The floor was just painted plywood (left). The window display area was framed out in salvaged wood (right).
The very first thing we did was knock down that funky wall! It opened up the space so much, it was an instant improvement... and it felt SO GOOD.
Then we painted, painted, painted, and painted some more. You guys, we painted so much. We hired someone to paint, then our team painted, then Brett's mom painted, then our intern Jenny painted... and then we went back to the paint store and bought more paint, and we're still painting. We think we might finish painting at some point? We're not sure.
Then it was time for the NEW FLOOOOOOR! (Oprah voice!) We were SO excited about this floor. In our old studio, we had 100-year-old factory floors that were terribly, shall we say... rustic. They were uneven, broken in places, and impossible to keep clean -- and we really hated them by the end. So, a fresh new floor that's clean as a whistle? Yes please! (Big thanks to Brett's dad for installing this beauty!) We absolutely love it!
